Terms of Use
The short version
- You must be 18 or over, use your real identity, and have one account.
- Events happen offline between members. Jom helps you find each other but doesn't organise or supervise events.
- Money goes directly between hosts and members. Jom never holds it.
- Be decent: no harassment, fake events, scams or spam. We can remove content and accounts that break the rules.
- Malaysian law applies.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Team Forest ("Jom", "we", "us"), which runs the Jom app and jomjom.app. By creating an account or using Jom, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Jom.
Jom is currently in beta. Features may change, break or be removed while we test.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older.
- One person, one account. Use your real name or a name people know you by, and a real photo of yourself if you add one.
- Keep your login secure. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
- Don't sell, transfer or share your account.
3. Identity verification
To keep Jom trustworthy, some features (such as hosting) need you to verify your identity with your MyKad and a selfie check. You must only verify with your own document. A verified tick means your identity matched at the time of verification. It is not a background check, and it doesn't guarantee how anyone will behave.
4. Events and attending
- Events are created and run by members, not by Jom. We don't organise, supervise or attend them, and we don't check venues.
- When you ask to join, the host decides whether to approve you. Approval may reveal the exact meeting place and the host's WhatsApp group.
- If you can't make it, leave the event in the app so your seat goes to someone else. Repeated no-shows can affect your standing.
- You attend at your own risk. Use your judgement, meet in public places, and follow the host's reasonable instructions and the venue's rules.
5. Hosting
- Describe your event accurately: what, where, when, cost and who it's for.
- You're responsible for your event, including any venue booking, permits and keeping people reasonably safe.
- Treat join requests fairly. Don't discriminate based on race, religion, gender, disability or similar grounds, except where the event is genuinely limited (for example, a women-only run).
- If you cancel or change an event, do it in the app so members are notified.
- Jom isn't for commercial promotions or ticket resale without our written permission.
6. Money between members
Some events have a fixed price or a shared cost split AA. Payment is made directly between members, for example by the host's DuitNow QR. Jom doesn't process, hold or guarantee any payment, and we can't issue refunds. Payment statuses in the app ("paid", "share reported") are records members make for each other, not proof of payment. Settle disagreements with each other first. You can report a host or member who takes money and doesn't deliver, and we may remove them.
7. Community rules
Don't use Jom to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, bully or intimidate anyone, online or at an event;
- post fake events, bait-and-switch events, or events meant to sell something or recruit people into schemes;
- scam or defraud people, or collect money under false pretences;
- post sexual content, hate speech, or content that promotes violence, illegal drugs or other illegal activity;
- impersonate someone, or create fake or duplicate accounts;
- collect other members' personal data, scrape the app, or use bots;
- interfere with Jom's systems, security or other members' use of it.
Follow Malaysian law at all times.
8. Your content
You own what you post (event details, photos, notes). You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and share it inside Jom and in links you share, so that the service can work. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others have already re-shared it or we must keep it for safety or legal reasons. Only post content you have the right to post.
9. Reports, blocks and moderation
You can report or block any member or event. We review reports and may remove content, hide events, limit features, or suspend or ban accounts that break these terms or put people at risk. We may do this without notice where safety requires. Where we can, we'll tell you why and let you reply. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 first.
10. Badges and rewards
Badges, streaks and physical pins are rewards for taking part. They have no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged, and may change. Physical rewards ship only to addresses in Malaysia while stocks last.
11. Ending your account
You can delete your account in the app at any time (Me › Account › Delete account). We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if required by law, or if we stop running Jom. If we stop the service, we'll give reasonable notice in the app.
12. Disclaimers and liability
Jom is provided "as is" during beta, without promises that it will always be available, accurate or error-free. To the extent Malaysian law allows:
- we're not responsible for members' behaviour, for what happens at events, or for payments between members;
- we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss;
- our total liability to you is limited to RM 100.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 or other laws that can't be excluded, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any problem. If we can't, the courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Jom after that, the new terms apply.
